Top 10 Apocalyptic Films

The Geek Emporium has posted a couple of fun little posts( here and here ) about gaming and the Apocalypse. So since I think this is fitting for my plans to have a running Halloween theme for the month of October (the Apocalypse can be scary) and I love movies about the Apocalypse I thought I would throw my 2 cents in.
Here is my Top 10 List of Movies about the Apocalypse. FYI, post apocalyptic movies count as well. FYI all of these are very good sources of ideas for running apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic RPG sessions in a number of systems. As always feel free to share your favorites.
  1. Mad Max
  2. Logan's Run
  3. The Omega Man
  4. Dawn of the Dead
  5. Water World
  6. 28 Days Later
  7. Night of the Living Dead
  8. Damnation Alley
  9. Escape from New York
  10. The Day After Tomorrow

28 Days Later and Water World make my list, in addition to Sunshine and Children of Men...Dawn of the Dead was a bit too cheesy for my taste...

Sunshine and Children of Men are both good choices.

First, thanks for the shout-out :)

Second, Independence Day is somewhat apocalyptic, only in it the apocalypse is averted in that instance ;)

Also, the TV miniseries based on The Stand is pretty damn good too. If you haven't seen it, I suggest checking it out.

The Stand is great, but I stayed away from TV. Otherwise I would have included Jericho, Jeremiah & Buck Rogers as well.

I only mentioned the stand because it was a mini-series rather than a full series. Had TV been included, Jericho and Jeremiah would definitely have made the cut. Buck Rodgers was good when I was a kid, but looking back...it sort of sucked ;)

but only the remake dawn of the dead, it was zombie-tastic!

@ Donny
The remake is my fav... I watched it last night.

@tomcat
all of the tv choices are good ones. I actually liked Buck Rogers and bought the complete series on DVD. It is corny, like most shows from that era, but fun and family friendly. My little girl likes it.
I guess I did include one TV program.. I think Damnation Alley was a TV movie.. I can't remember.

Now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure it was. At least, that's where I saw it.

Good selection though I would have:

1) Mad Max 2
2) Mad Max 1
3) Dawn of the Dead (Original)
4) Threads (BBC one off )
5) Escape from New York
6) Red Dawn
7) The War Game (BBC one off)
8) The Day the Earth Caught Fire (More a disaster movie than post-apocalypse but a fantastic almost-the-end-of-the-world film)
9) Delicatessen
10) Planet of the Apes (Original)

Tank Girl almost made the cut despite being a fairly average film because I'm soft-touch for sexy girls with big guns.

I Am Legend would of made the cut except the last 10 minutes of the film is awful.
